Photos from Cheltenham Christmas Lights Switch On 2008

Cheltenham Christmas lights were switched on this Saturday, with the help of Spongebob & Patrick, Bob the Builder, panto characters, the r'n'b girl band The Honeyz and, of course, the man with the white beard himself, Santa.

Children were able to visit Santa's grotto in the Brewery and stroke his reindeers. There were many street performers in the High Street and Spongebob and Bob the Builder were greeting children in the shopping arcades.

The procession with Santa's train included characters from pantos by Cheltenham's various dramatic groups, girls' dance troupes and traditional Indian drummers and dancers. Crowds gathered along the Promenade to greet Santa, who was heading to Imperial Gardens, where The Honeyz were on stage, for the big switch-on.
